A paedophile who admitted to a psychiatrist his sex abuse of two girls was "repugnant" has been jailed for 14 years.
A judge told 49-year-old Glen Macleod-Maclean: "The public rightly has a natural distaste for this type of crime and any sentence I pass must reflect that.
"It must also punish you for what you have done and it must send out the clearest message that such behaviour will be visited by punishment."
Macleod-Maclean, of Sutton Road, Maidstone, admitted one charge of rape, five of indecency with a child, four of indecent assault, three of sexual activity with a child and one of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
Maidstone Crown Court heard the offences were revealed when one of the victims was receiving counselling for an alleged attempted rape by another man.
Paul Valder, prosecuting, said the teenager disclosed that Macleod-Maclean had also abused her.
When arrested, he told officers: "I deeply regret what I have done."
Macleod-Maclean also admitted abusing the other girl several years before.
He started touching her over her knickers and told her not to tell anyone, adding it was their secret.
Mr Valder said Macleod-Maclean would perform a sex act on himself while fondling the girl. He also made the girl perform a sex act on him.
The victim told a friend after Macleod-Maclean raped her and the police were informed. But she was persuaded to withdraw the allegations and the charges were dropped.

Matters finally came to a head when the second victim told how Macleod-Maclean had molested her and performed a sex act in front of her.
Judge Charles Byers said the public would be appalled if he ignored the risk Macleod-Maclean posed to children generally.
He said of the two victims: "What you gave them was long-term, foul abuse. You knew what you were doing was wrong. To quote what you told a psychiatrist, you knew what you were doing was repugnant."
The two victims, he said, were likely to be traumatised for a long time.
"I accept you are now remorseful, but you could have been remorseful a lot earlier," he added.
An indefinite sexual offences prevention order was imposed and Macleod-Maclean's name will appear on the sex offenders' register for life.
