Police cordoned off Tunbridge Wells railway station

Two people are being quizzed on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Tunbridge Wells.

The 53-year-old man was critically injured after being airlifted to hospital yesterday with a stab wound.

He is now in a stable condition, which is no longer believed to be life- threatening.

Kent Police said a 30-year-old woman and 23-year-old man are being questioned by officers in police custody.

They were called to the town's railway station, in Vale Road, at about 5.30pm after receiving reports of a man being seriously injured.

Officers sealed off two areas of Tunbridge Wells - the railway station and part of the common - they tried to work out what happened.

They are still at a cordoned area on the common in Vale Road, at the junction of London Road and Torrington Road.

The 23-year-old man in custody is from East Grinstead and the 30-year-old woman is from Southborough. Both were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man was arrested in Tunbridge Wells at 11.25pm yesterday after the woman was arrested at just before 6pm.

DCI Jon Clayden, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "Officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of what happened last evening.

"However, if anyone saw anything suspicious or has any information which could help our investigation, then please contact us on 101, quoting reference no. CAD 19-1363."
