Paper boy loses £8k claim for loss of earnings

A paper boy who claimed thousands of pounds in compensation after alleging he was unfairly dismissed, has lost his case.

The 15-year-old brought the case against the owner of Sturry News, claiming for loss of earnings and damages for hurt feelings.

But because the employment tribunal at Ashford decided Barton Court pupil Myles Bebbington was not an employee, the rest of his case collapsed.

His parents say the challenge was not about money but getting fair recognition for their son’s rights and now regret putting him through the ordeal.

But now the Children’s Legal Centre is disputing the tribunal ruling, insisting that newspaper boys are employees with legal rights.
