A one-day old baby was helped by the Red Cross last week during a power cut which at its height hit thousands of homes.

The fault in Frindsbury meant some homes were without power for more than 24 hours which started last Tuesday.

As part of the incident the Red Cross provided help and support to customers left in the dark.

Bob Cass, service manager for emergency response in Kent, said: “Our volunteer team checked 50 homes and we were able to give some people advice while the power was off and support them practically.

“It can seem surprising that something as simple as a power cut can lead to people becoming vulnerable.

"As part of the response on Thursday, we were able to help people including those living in a warden controlled flat, a one day old baby and a resident who was a wheelchair user, providing practical and emotional support as well as refreshments to keep them warm.”

Twelve homes were offered help in Frindsbury by the Red Cross, which was called out by power firm EDF Energy Networks.
