PHIL Sackett has been awarded the MBE for community services following 34 years as the clerk to Minster Parish Council.
He retired from the post this spring following 34 years during which time he worked tirelessly helping to promote the village and improve life in the area.
He knew in May that he was to receive the award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and added: “Keeping this a secret for six weeks is one of the hardest things I have done in my life.
“Although the award is for me, it is really an honour for the village and the parish council chairmen and members I have worked with over the years.”
Mr Sackett, 58, retired eight years ago as administration and central services manager at Thanet District Council. He will be invited to Buckingham Palace in the autumn to receive the medal.
