A WOMAN was impaled on railings in a car crash on the outskirts of Margate. Fire crews cut her free from the wreckage of a Skoda that hit the fencing, part of which speared her leg.
Police say the elderly woman was travelling towards Margate on the A28 at Westbrook with her husband who was driving. Both are in their 70s.
He was taken to the Queen Mother hospital in Margate by road, while his wife was airlifed by Kent Air Ambulance that had landed on the railway bridge near the crash site.
The accident happened yesterday afternoon near the Canterbury Road junction with Westbrook Avenue at Westbrook. Fire crews used hydraulic rescue equipment as part of the operation.
The road was closed in both directions and traffic was diverted. A police spokesman confirmed that only one car was involved.
