'Passer-by' snatches wallet and mobile phone

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man lost his wallet containing £150 and a mobile phone in a street theft in Birchington. Police spokeswoman Gemma Pettman said: “The victim, who is 40 and lives in the village, was walking along Station Road when he was bumped into by a young man.

"The path is pretty wide and it was not crowded so he thought the collision was a bit odd. He soon discovered his property had been snatched.”

The offender is in his late teens to early 20s, slim, and wore a red baseball cap and dark blue puffa jacket. He was last seen heading towards the railway station.

Police are viewing CCTV footage from local stores to try and identify the thief. The theft happened at 10am on Wednesday Anyone who can identify the thief should telephone Thanet detectives on 01843 222192.
