Simeon Jackson returned with the rest of the Gillingham squad for pre-season training this week but his future at the club remains uncertain.
Chairman Paul Scally was unable to say whether the Gills’ leading striker would be kicking-off the season at Priestfield following interest from several clubs.
Any bids so far have been snubbed by Mr Scally and he’s refusing to do business until a club comes in with a credible offer.
Mr Scally said: "He is worth money but it’s a question of what he is worth. We’ve had no credible offers so far.
"He’s a great lad and we would wish him well if he did ever leave. We also know he has an opportunity to play at a higher level and he would be foolish not to want to play at a higher level, despite our wishes to keep him here.
"It’s a bit of a balancing act and that is where the skill of the board comes in.
"We have never stood in someone’s way who wants to move on and clearly he wants to play at a higher level, as will most of the team, and clearly he knows there is interest from some clubs. We just have to wait and see how the weeks progress."
Gillingham paid Rushden £150,000 for the striker’s services at the end of January 2008. He has gone on to lead the club’s scoring charts for the last two seasons. Mr Scally will want to make a decent return on the player, who is out of contract next summer, and the club will have to factor into account the 15 per cent sell-on fee due to Rushden.
