Peaceful protest is way to go

THE No Airport At Cliffe Campaign Liaison Group (CLG) says it has no intention of using civil disobedience as a protest weapon.

In a statement, the group says there have been reports that "a few groups" are considering civil disobedience as part of their anti-airport campaign.

It adds that the group, along with its major allies including the RSPB, Medway Council and Dickens Country Protection Society, believes the best long-term plan to ensure there is no airport at Cliffe is to take the right approach towards fighting the plans.

Group spokesman George Crozer said: "The best long-term strategy to ensure there is no airport at Cliffe is that we take the right approach towards aviation growth in this country and to follow the due process of the law."

The White Paper on aviation expansion in the South East is due out by the end of the year and there is still time for people to make their voices heard by writing to their MP or MEP.

CLG members will be at the Labour party conference this week making sure delegates are aware of the feelings of people in North Kent.
