Pensioner dies after road crash

A 73-year-old pensioner has died in hospital a few hours after being involved in a car accident in Birchington.

The man was driving along Canterbury Road near the junction with Charlesworth Drive yesterday when he collided with a lamppost on a central reservation. The incident happened at about 8am.

The man, from Birchington, was taken to Margate’s Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital after being cut from his silver Daewoo by fire crews.

The man has not yet been identified. A post mortem will be carried out.
