Pensioner killed crossing road

AN ELDERLY man died today after being struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing in Gillingham. The pensioner, thought to be in his 70s, died from his injuries in the accident in Jeffery Street at the junction of Gardiner Street.

The vehicle involved was a Ford Fiesta. The male driver was being questioned by police. The accident happened at about 8.40am.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who can help is asked to telephone Medway police on 01634 884252.
