My Heroes – that is how pensioner Stella Justice describes the teenagers who helped her when she fell and broke her arm in the street.

Mrs Justice, from Hughes Drive, Wainscott, was on her way home from an appointment when she fell over in an alleyway.

The 80-year-old feared for her safety when, lying helplessly on the floor, she was approached by a group of youths.

But, as we reported in Friday’s print edition of the Medway Messenger, the lads had no malice in mind – all they wanted to do was help.

Daniel Mills, 15, and Lloyd Buckley, 14, got Mrs Justice to her feet and walked her home while Lewis Franklin, 16, picked up her shopping and carried it for her.

Praise

Daniel said: “We were standing nearby when we saw her fall. We saw she couldn’t get up and thought we better help her. We couldn’t just leave her there.”

Mrs Justice has had two hip replacements and would not have been able to get up normally, even without a broken arm.

She had nothing but praise for the boys. She said: “It’s a very dark alley round there and I was in a lot of pain.

“As I fell I heard them shout out. They got me up and helped me home. They are my heroes, my saviours. I bought them a tin of Heroes chocolates to say thank you. Kids get downed all the time these days but these ones are brilliant, you couldn’t ask for more.”

When the boys, all pupils at Hundred of Hoo school, were offered a cash reward for their troubles, they turned it down and said they were only too pleased to help.

Daniel’s mum Lyn Mills said she was proud of them. “As a mum I feel very proud, I’m absolutely chuffed with all of them. They’re good kids, they’re polite, kind and just really nice.”

Mrs Justice is likely to be unable to use her arm for five weeks so the boys have even offered to do her shopping and walk her dog.
