A person has died after being hit by a train at a north Kent station.

The incident happened just after 11.20am at Northfleet on Tuesday, and involved a freight train.

The station is closed while emergency services carry out their work. Six police cars and two ambulances were on the scene.

All services between Gravesend and Northfleet stations have been cancelled, and trains delayed from Charing Cross.

A bus shuttle service was organised to take passengers from Gravesend to Dartford.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman confirmed the death and said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The victim has not yet been identified.

The train involved was a freight service travelling from Clifford to Crawley. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
