Phone trolls pick on family of murdered teacher Carl Davies

A sick phone troll has been taunting the parents of murdered Sittingbourne teacher Carl Davies.

During one of the calls, the man asked to speak to the ex-Royal Marine before laughing and hanging up.

It is one of five exchanges between the anonymous caller and Andy and Maria Davies over the past five weeks.

The man phoned both Mr Davies senior’s mobile and the home phone - despite it being an ex-directory number.

It has caused further pain for the Harrietsham-based couple, whose son was found dead on the south Indian Ocean island Reunion last November.

They were initially told he died after falling into a ravine. But a week later they were told the devastating news the 33-year-old had in fact been murdered.

Kent Police has been notified about the calls and the home phone number has now been changed.

Mr Davies said: "I don’t understand why anyone would want to taunt me over the death of my son. It’s just sick.

"When I got the first call I thought he doesn’t know about Carl because he asked for him. I said ‘can I help you?’ and he laughed and hung up.

"When he called my mobile and asked to speak to Carl I said ‘are you aware what’s happened to my son?’ and he laughed and hung up.

"When he called again I pretended to be Carl and he laughed and hung up again. The last two times he didn’t speak.

"We were asked if it was anyone we know, but I doubt it. This guy’s got a foreign accent, but he speaks good English.

"I just think it’s ghastly that someone could even consider doing that with the stress and the loss we have suffered – I find it staggering. It’s been very upsetting.

"There’s nothing we can do other than change our number and we’ve done that but I’m reluctant to change my mobile because I’m self-employed. Everyone I work for has that number. I suppose at least [if he calls the mobile] it will just be me that has to deal with it, not Maria."

Mr Davies said he and his wife are happier with the direction the investigation into their son’s death is now heading.

A team of Gendarmes from Paris were sent to Reunion two weeks ago and a magistrate has also been appointed to the case.

The couple recently spoke to them about how it was going - with the help of a translator - via a video link conference at Kent Police headquarters, in Maidstone.

Mr Davies said: "They said it is slow but there’s stuff going on behind the scenes and they’ve left us with no doubt that’s happening.

"The magistrate said they would organise another meeting via video link in six to seven weeks time to update us."

The couple also met with Kent Police, pathologist Dr David Rouse and coroner’s officer Chris Kemsley on May 1 in the hope of getting answers to 21 questions.

Mr Davies added: "I’m not able to say what was discussed, but we’ve now got all the answers to the questions we had.

"It brought some comfort because we now know what’s going on and that everyone is pulling out all the stops."
