Two businessmen have put forward a proposal that could save the beleaguered all tide landing at Queenborough.
In the past few years, the landing at Crundells Wharf has suffered storm damage and has only been kept afloat by the hard work of volunteers who are having to make constant repairs to the structure.
But now things could be looking up after the landing’s management board came up with a plan.
Committee chairman Colin Wyver said: “The landing is a vital asset and benefits the marine community, visitors and the disabled.
“We have some super volunteers but there is a limit to what they can do.
“We needed to come up with a plan to bring some stability to the structure and hopefully if this goes ahead it will help massively.”
Two businessmen are looking at funding a floating pontoon at the far end of the landing to stop the main structure from moving in gales and strong winds. The addition should prolong the landing’s lifespan for a decade or more.
Installed in 1994, the structure is used for boat trips and fishing and visiting yachtsmen to moor their vessels.
