A PLANNING application has been refused for two store giants to share the former Safeway building in Strood High Street.

If Medway Council development officers had agreed to the application it would have seen both Netto Foodstores and Wilkinsons sharing the same site as soon as this December.

The former Safeway site has been vacant for three years and is in a state of disrepair. Illegal parking, vandalism and fly-tipping are currently a problem.
