Paul Farbrace believes playing against India will provide Kent’s rejuvenated squad with the sort of experience money simply cannot buy.
The teams clash before a sell-out crowd of 7,000 in a 50-over contest at Canterbury on Friday and Kent’s confidence will be high after Tuesday’s 14-run Clydesdale Bank 40 victory over Sussex at Hove – their fifth straight win in all competitions.
Director of cricket Farbrace admitted he is looking forward to the visit of the Indians and feels it is a great chance for Kent’s team, especially the youngsters, to showcase their talents against the world one-day champions.
He said: "It’s a brilliant game for us. Forget the results in the Test series, India are still one hell of a side and for a county team to play against one of the best teams in the world, in front of what will be a full house, that’s a money can’t buy experience for our young lads.
"The most important thing is they enjoy the occasion but actually it’s a chance to showcase their skills and talents against some of the best cricketers in the world.
"A billion people follow the Indian side so there will be a lot of pressure, a lot of coverage and it will be brilliant for the kids to play in that game.
"It’s going to be a big experience, something they’ll remember and that’s whether you’re Geraint Jones, who has won the Ashes, or Adam Ball starting off in your career."
The last few tickets went on Monday, for Kent’s biggest game of the season.
Rob Key’s wrist injury means he will sit out the match giving wicketkeeper Geraint Jones the chance to again lead the side, following Martin van Jaarsveld’s decision this week to stand down as vice-captain.
Azhar Mahmood also has a niggle and will miss the game, with David Balcombe set to come in to the 12 which also includes Sam Billings.
Key won’t play either in Monday’s final CB40 match against Derbyshire at Canterbury (1.45pm start).
