National ploughing championships are being held in the county this autumn for only the second time in 58 years.

The British National Ploughing Championships will be staged at Marden on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12. The contest was last held in Kent, near Leeds Castle, in 1997.

More than 150 ploughmen, including past World and European champions, will compete at the event for national titles, with the top prize of representing England at the 2009 World Ploughing Contest in Slovenia.

Other attractions will include trade stands, displays of vintage equipment and a craft marquee.
