A brave has been praised after he stopped a man threatening to leap from a cliff.
Police Community Support Officer Sam White was called to Wellington Crescent in Ramsgate on Tuesday at 3pm following reports a man had climbed over railings above the cliffs. He'd clambered back over, but was still threatening to jump.
PCSO White put himself between the railings and the man, stopping him from jumping, even when he started to become hostile.
He held the man back until his neighbourhood colleagues arrived to lend a hand.
The man is now in the care of a mental health team in hospital.
Thanet district commander Chief Inspector Mitchell Fox said: "This is without doubt an outstandingly brave thing to do.
"Under challenging circumstances, Sam compromised his own safety to help another who is clearly in a position of great need, an act in the highest traditions of the police service.
"Not only has Sam saved a life, he has also demonstrated with his quick thinking and awareness what a difference our neighbourhood officers' presence in Thanet's communities can make.
"Excellent work like this, which my self-deprecating staff more often than not see as them simply doing their job, makes me exceptionally proud of my team."
