KENT Police are seeking witnesses after a man was killed in a road crash on the A299 Thanet Way at Whitstable on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at about 5.55am and involved two vehicles, a white Ford Transit works van and a Vauxhall Combo van, just after the Whitstable turn off.

The Transit, carrying railway engineers returning home from a night shift, left the carriageway and overturned killing a passenger.

The identity of the man who died is yet to be confirmed but he is believed to have been from the Herne Bay area.

Three other passengers from the Transit were taken to the QEQM hospital at Margate with serious injuries. One has since been transferred to St Thomas' Hospital in London. The driver of the transit was also injured.

No injuries are reported from the other van involved. The Thanet Way coastbound reopened at about 1pm.

Anyone who can assist police with their investigation is asked to contact the Serious Crash Investigation Unit on 01622 600970.
