The victim of a stabbing at Gillingham railway station has been arrested along with another man.

The 17-year-old, from Dartford, who was stabbed outside the station, and a 20-year-old from Greenwich, south east London, have been held on suspicion of violent disorder.

They were arrested at their homes on Friday and Saturday.

The stabbing took place shortly before 6.15pm on Tuesday, July 24, after a fight involving a small group of men on a London-bound train.

The 17-year-old was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, with two stab wounds to his chest and body, where he underwent surgery. He was later discharged and now, following further enquiries made by detectives, has been arrested.

DS Leigh Marshall, leading the investigation for British Transport Police, said: "Following our appeal in local media I’d like to thank the public for their overwhelming response into this incident. We received lots of vital information which has greatly assisted our investigation."

Both arrested men have been bailed, pending further enquiries, and are due to return to police stations in Kent and London on August 31.

Officers are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
