A MAN has been slapped with an ASBO for a spate of unruly behaviour over 12 months in which he also racially abused police officers.
Matthew Haines, 21, of Hadlow Road, Welling, has been involved in violence, public disorder, assault on police, criminal damage and drunk and disorderly behaviour over the past 12 months, a court heard.
Some of the incidents were racially aggravated.
Supt Martin Bagg of Bexley police said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour is one of my top priorities and more ASBOs are likely to follow as work continues to bring other individuals before the court.”
Bexley magistrates granted the police’s application for an ASBO after Haines pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and an assault on Sgt Jon Wright, in Denton Road, Welling.
Haines had been remanded in custody after he was arrested by officers from the St Michael’s Safer Neighbourhoods police team, on October 6.
He was sentenced to 28 days imprisonment for an assault on police, which he served in custody while awaiting trial.
Magistrates fined him £250 or gave him the option of one more day in prison for using racially abusive language.
Haines was also ordered to pay two lots of compensation, £100 to Sgt Wright and a further £100 to PCSO Stephen Archer from the St Michael’s Safer Neighbourhoods team for using racially abusive language towards him.
The ASBO will be in force for two years, constraining Haines from getting into trouble.
Bexley council’s anti-social behaviour unit researched the extent of Haines’ involvement in crime and disorder and worked closely with Sgt Wright from the St Michael’s Safer Neighbourhoods team in bringing the action.
Cllr Katie Perrior, cabinet member for community affairs, said: “We all have a right to be protected and should not have to put up with people who have a blatant disregard for others. This individual deserves the sentence passed.”
