Police examine bones after car blaze

POLICE experts are examining bones found in a burnt-out car to establish whether they are human or animal.

Officers were called to Warren Lane in the village of Hartlip, near Gillingham, at about 9pm on Wedneday following a report that a beige Renault Laguna was on fire.

Members of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze but further investigation revealed that the car, which was reported to have been stolen, was full of soil.

Police media spokeswoman Sally Smith said: "Within the soil two small bones were found. The bones will be sent for testing to establish if they are animal or human. Meanwhile, the police investigation continues."
