POLICE in the Medway area have launched a festive crime-busting campaign in a bid to reduce violence and promote a safe environment in which people can socialise.
The action will see extra patrols taking to the streets of the area at peak times in the evening.
The officers will be on hand to make sure potentially violent situations can be diffused and intervene before they get out of hand.
While uniformed officers will be patrolling the streets with the aim of preventing trouble, two plain-clothes officers will also be dedicated to investigating incidents of domestic violence.
Police spokeswoman Sally Smith said: "Some people feel stressed over the festive season and this can put pressure on relationships in the home.
"The officers will be aiming to attend incidents when they are reported to ensure that evidence can be gathered and the likelihood of arrests is increased."
Chief Inspector Des Keers, who is overseeing the campaign said: ‘Medway benefits from a vibrant night-time economy and we want to ensure that people are able to enjoy themselves in an environment where they can feel safe.
"Anti-social drunken behaviour can ruin a persons seasonal holiday and I am confident that this increased uniformed police presence will allow residents to enjoy the festivities in peace.’
The campaign will begin on Friday, December 1 and will run until Saturday, December 23.
