Police have named a teenager
murdered in a Faversham park in the early hours of Saturday
morning.

Adam Beaney, 19, who lived in the
town, was assaulted near to public toilets in Faversham Recreation
Ground. He was found between 2.30am and 3am with a chest
wound and taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford,
where he later died from his injuries.

A 20-year-old local man arrested on
suspicion of murder on Saturday lunchtime remains in police custody
while investigations continue.

Flowers were left at the scene on
Sunday morning, including cards which read: "To my baby Beaney man"
and "R.I.P. Little man."

Faversham recreation ground was
completely sealed off to the public on Saturday, while Police and
forensic officers carried out investigations in and around the
park. An inner cordon had also been set up by officers in front of
the public toilet block and detectives conducted door to door
enquiries in the town at neighbouring properties and
businesses.

Faversham resident Mary Cooper, who
passed by the murder scene on Saturday morning, was shocked to see
the scale of the investigation.

Mrs Cooper, of Whitstable Road,
said: "It’s very sad to hear of something like this happening where
you live.

"My husband and I have only lived
in the town a few years since moving from London and we don’t
expect to hear about this kind of crime on our doorstep."

She added: "It’s a very tragic
thing to see."
