KENT Police are investigating allegations of abuse against residents at a Kent nursing home by a former member of staff.

The investigation is taking place at Frindsbury Hall, a privately-owned care home in Strood.

A spokesman for Medway Council, which purchases services from the home, said an investigation was taking place under the Adult Protection Procedures, which involve various agencies concerned with abuse allegations.

Frindsbury Hall is run by the Bondcare Group. It provides accommodation for 74 residents, mostly elderly.

The council spokesman confirmed that the member of staff against whom the allegations have been made had resigned.

The allegations have been provisionally referred to the Protection of Vulnerable Adults Register, a Department of Health list of people deemed unsuitable to work with vulnerable adults.

The spokesman added that allegations of physical abuse were made to staff at Frindsbury Hall who reported them to the council. They had so far not been substantiated but police were investigating.

He said: “Council staff will be contacting the relatives of the three residents allegedly affected by the incidents.”

The Council for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) – the regulatory body for social and nursing care homes – has been notified of the allegations and is working with Medway Council and Frindsbury Hall.

“The management and staff at Frindsbury Hall are co-operating fully in this process and are ensuring that good quality care is available in their nursing home,” said the council spokesman.

A spokesman for Bondcare confirmed that the allegations of abuse had been made and said the company was working closely with Medway Council Social Services and the CSCI to fully investigate the alleged incidents.
