Police seal off university campus

A man is in a London hospital with a serious head injury after an assault at the University of Kent at Canterbury.

Police were called to a disturbance and more than 800 clubbers were evactuated from the Venue club on the campus following a fire alarm.

A 20-year-old man from Canterbury is at St George's Hospital in Tooting where he is in a stable condition.

Police said he would be assessed by neurologists again in the morning.

He was unconscious on the ground when paramedics arrived, but regained consciousness in the ambulance.

Results of scans at the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford meant he was transferred to specialists in London for treatment.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm - two 20-year-old men from Canterbury and an 18-year-old from Portsmouth.
