Police still at key sites despite terror threat level drop

KENT Police is maintaining an increased visible presence at key sites in the county after the national terror threat level was downgraded from "critical" to "severe".

Officers, some armed, are still stationed at several positions, including the Channel ports, Eurotunnel, Ashford International Station and Manston Airport.

Specialist community liaison officers are working closely with community groups to reassure them and monitor community tensions and concerns.

The force has stressed that it is committed to responding robustly to any form of hate crime against groups and individuals.

Deputy Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle said: "We are aware that some communities will be particularly concerned. These include minority ethnic and faith groups who may feel particularly vulnerable.

"We will be keeping them informed of any developments and I can assure them that we do take their concerns very seriously."
