Police treat bat assault as racist attack

A MAN was hit with a bat in what police are describing as a racist assault in Ramsgate.

The 25-year-old man from Ramsgate was walking with friends along the Plains of Waterloo towards the seafront at about 9.15pm on Saturday July 10.

As they reached Wellington Crescent a man standing on the corner asked if they were British. When one of the group replied ‘no’, the man became abusive and ran towards the group holding what appeared to be some kind of bat.

He grabbed hold of the victim, punched him and hit him on the back. The victim managed to free himself and the man ran off.

He was described as white, in his early twenties and 5ft 9in tall. He was thin, had short dark brown hair and wore blue jeans and a light coloured top and carried a white carrier bag.
