A crash involving a police van driving on blue lights and a car led to the closure of a main road on the outskirts of a Kent town for over three hours.

The incident happened on the A299 at the Foads Hill junction at Cliffs End, near Ramsgate.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.45pm Saturday and firefighters had to cut a female passenger out of the car. She was treated at the QEQM Hospital at Margate for minor injuries.

The male police officer driving the police van also suffered minor injuries.

The A299 Canterbury Road West was shut in both directions until 6pm. The crash is being investigated.
