They’ve already said yes to hybrid embryos and “saviour siblings”, but now MPs have the controversial matter of abortions to consider.
The House of Commons will vote today on further reforms to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990, and must decide whether or not to lower the upper limit at which abortions can be carried out.
At present, the law states a woman cannot abort a foetus beyond the 24week mark. The reform is suggesting this limit be lowered to 20weeks or less.

Health Minister Dawn Primarolo claims there is no evidence requiring abortion laws to be changed since the 24week limit was set, but Conservative and medical critics argue there should be a point where the baby’s rights must be considered along with the mother’s.
MPs will also consider current rules for IVF and whether lesbians and single mothers should be given as much rights to the fertility treatment as couples.
Changing the law on IVF would mean reconsidering the need for a father in a baby’s life.
