Porsche has announced that it is to rekindle one of the most evocative names from its history with a new 911 Speedster model.
The open top two-seater 911 variant will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show and will be limited to a worldwide production run of just 356 examples as a tribute to the original Porsche 356 Speedster.
The limited edition model will feature major styling revisions with Porsche's design team taking its inspiration from the original Speedster model, resulting in a lower, more rakish windscreen and a double-bubble hardcover for the soft-top roof.
Weight will be kept to a minimum and the 911 Speedster will incorporate a manually operated cover. Weighing just 1540kg, the new model will use a 408bhp 3.8-litre flat six engine to reach 62mph 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 189.5mph.
