THE discovery of a white substance that turned out to be powdered milk prompted police to close part of a road on Saturday.

A section of Ash Grove in Allington, was cordoned off at about 1.30pm following reports of a suspicious package.

Insp Andy Reeves said: "After receiving a call from a concerned resident the area was kept clear as a precaution while checks were carried out.

"It was quickly determined that the substance was not harmful but we would urge people to report any suspicious packages."
