WE ARE entering the most dangerous time of year on the roads, according to GEM Motoring Assist (GEM).
The road safety champion blames the fact that the clocks have gone back for the hundreds of extra accidents that occur during the winter months.
GEM chief executive David Williams said: “Excited but tired schoolchildren setting off for home and work-weary drivers coupled with dark gloomy afternoons, create a cocktail for disaster.
“The drivers themselves have to be extra vigilant. Too many people drive in poor visibility without dipped headlights. It is not just a question of seeing, but being seen.”
Mr Williams pointed out that the weather can change very quickly and dramatically even on short journeys, so we have to be prepared for unexpected poor conditions.
GEM has revised and updated its free leaflet on winter driving tips based on the GEM slogan to drive with care, courtesy and concentration.
It is available from GEM Motoring Assist Station Road, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5EN or by calling 01342 825676.
