Prepare for war: senior Tory defence minister

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox has forecast a war between the West and a nuclear-equipped Iran.

He said that if Iran got nuclear weapons it would threaten not just the region but also the West.

He warned of the dangers of Britain's weak military state, of our shrinking Navy said there were more attack aircraft in the Hendon museum than in today's RAF.

It was crucial, he said, the West was prepared to act as united force if the Iranian threat grew.

Dr Fox was speaking at a party gathering in Rainham in support of the Conservative candidate for Gillingham, Reh Chishti.

He made his comments to the Tory function later in the evening, following his exclusive interview with us.

Dr Fox forecast a dirty bomb would be exploded in a West city by terrorists taught distorted Islamist views to justify violence against the West.

There was stunned silence as he forecast that a dirty bomb - a nuclear device with refinements - would be let off in the West by terrorists in the near future.

"We have already had one - in Moscow," he claimed.

"Fortunately it did not go off - it was in a Moscow park."
