Pride in Medway 2009 - Don Warren

A caretaker from mhs homes has been nominated for a Pride in Medway award.

Don Warren, who works in Borstal, has been put forward for the community involvement category.

Patricia Montgomery, of Stirling Close, Borstal, said: "Don has been a caretaker on our estate for nearly 10 years. He is a very caring and hard working man.

"I have lived on this estate for 40 years. Don is the best caretaker we've ever had. He will help anyone over and above the call of duty, be it a young mum or an elderly person struggling with their shopping. Don will stop and help anyone.

"He is a credit to mhs homes. I hope Don will be recognised for his hard work and the care he shows towards everyone."

A rather surprised Don said: "This has come out of the blue. I'm honoured that I've been nominated for an award and I'd like to say thank you to Mrs Montgomery for taking the time to fill out the form.

"It's a shock because I don't think I do anything out of the ordinary. I try to be everybody's friend when I'm at work.

"Whether it's taking elderly residents to the doctors if they have mobility problems or organising some furniture for somebody who needs it, I'm more than happy to help.

"I just really enjoy my work, especially meeting and helping people where I can. I don't know what I'd do without it.
