A hard working volunteer at the City of Rochester Swimming and Lifeguard Club has been nominated for a Pride in Medway Award.
Club secretary Janet Gifford, 52, attends about six swim sessions a week and spends many hours dealing with the daily administration of the organisation.
She acts as an important link between parents, swimmers, lifesavers, coaches and committee members to ensure the group runs smoothly.
"I am really shocked to have been nominated as it was so unexpected," said Ms Gifford.
"I am very appreciative for the recognition, but I just do what I do to help out because the club is so friendly and family-orientated."
Ms Gifford started volunteering with the group in the 90s when her daughter, then five years old, started swimming there.
She has had various roles, such as fund-raising secretary and membership secretary, at the club ever since, and now her grandson is following in the family's footsteps and is making a splash at the club.
Treasurer Kathy Batts, who nominated Ms Gifford for the award, said she could not think of a more worthy recipient.
"Her professionalism is exemplary," said treasurer, Kathy Batts.
"She has over the past year had to deal with some very delicate issues that required a considerable amount of confidentiality and she has undertaken all this with both tact and when needed a sense of humour."
