Brave Joy Birdsey suffers from chronic ME but that hasn't stopped her helping others.
She set up, and now runs, the Grain Disabled and Carers Group to help those suffering from social and medical problems.
And she has proved so inspirational that members of the group decided to nominate her for a Pride in Medway award in the community involvement category.
A spokesman for the group said: "Being in an isolated community, the group has been invaluable in supporting members with both social and medical issues.
"With Joy's inspiration and enthusiasm the group has raised money to create a wheelchair scheme for disabled drivers at Medway Maritime Hospital.
"The group has also provided a nebuliser for both village surgeries and a defibrillator for the community use.
"Joy is involved with the group Links which is working for the improvement of the hospital system. No matter how ill she is feeling herself, she freely gives her time and knowledge to help improve community life. Her care and concern for the community most certainly deserves our thanks and recognition."
Mrs Birdsey, of Grain Road, Grain, said: "I'm overwhelmed. Bless them for nominating me. I set up the group because there was nothing for disabled or ill people and carers on the Isle of Grain.
"These people often become isolated and unhappy. We try and give them some pride in themselves back. Everybody has a voice that deserves to be heard.
"It can be difficult sometimes, but we stay positive. Members suffer with a range illnesses, some of them serious, but we find laughter is the best medicine."
