Probe after man drowns in quarry

A MAN drowned after trying to swim across a disused Northfleet quarry.

The man, who was 21 and lived in Peckham, tried swimming from one side the other yesterday afternoon but failed to make it.

He was pronounced dead at the Darenth Valley hospital.

North Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation into his death.
