Pub roof destroyed in blaze

Firefighters spent more than four hours tackling a fire that completely gutted the roof of a Kent pub.

The blaze broke out shortly before 9pm on Friday at the White Cliff Inn at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone.

Fire crews were on the scene until around 1am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a woman was treated for shock after a house fire in Cleveland, Tunbridge Wells.

That blaze started just on the ground floor just after midnight on Saturday. The woman managed to escape the property before firefighters arrived.

Fire crews battled the flames until 2.30am on Saturday. Around 60 per cent of the ground floor was left severely damaged by heat and fire, while the remainder of the house was smoke damaged.

The cause is being investigated.
