A wife-beater tattooed with the words "Only God will judge me" launched a terrifying campaign of violence after a savage wedding-day attack on his bride.

Folkestone's "Public Enemy Number One" Matt Green began carrying a two-foot long sword "for his own protection" after wife Mary Webb told her story.

But within weeks of his release from a jail sentence Green:

* SPAT at his new girlfriend Michelle Henry

* SLAPPED her in front of her five year old son

* BIT her on her face

* Tried to STRANGLE her

* LEFT HER with ligament damage after another attack

* STOLE from a disabled neighbour and,

* SCREAMED homophobic abuse at a neighbour complaining about loud music

Now Green, 32 of Dover Road, Folkestone, has been jailed for 26 months for a string of assaults, thefts and breaches of bail.

Prosecutor James Bilsland told Canterbury Crown Court of Michelle Henry's ordeal at the hands of her bullying boyfriend.

He said that Michelle had been in a relationship with Green for two months. They had an argument when Green spat in her face.

Two days later they had another row when a TV stopped working - ending up with him biting her face.

After a groveling apologising when Ms Henry admitted she was "flattered by what he said" and took him back.

But the violence continued.

She later told officers: "Matt strangled me. We were having an argument in the kitchen in the flat.

"My leg was hurting. I was in the doorway. I could see my son who had been screaming during the incident."

The child would later claim Green held his hand over his mouth to stop him screaming.

She continued: "Matt has slapped me around the head several times. Matt is very heavy handed. I also had a black eye."

On May 2 she told how friends had come round prompting another bust up when she asked them to leave.

She said: "Her ordered me to apologise to them.I felt like a little kid.

"He was patronising, me making me look like an idiot. I said I was sorry.

"Matt got up and walked over to the TV and said: 'Say it louder. Tell them that you are sorry.' I got up and walked into the bedroom.

"I was crying. I felt humiliated."

On May 25 a police officer near the harbour saw three men, including Green who was holding a two-foot long sword.

He claimed he was carrying it for protection after being accused of a sexual crime.

Five days later, a 51-year-old disabled woman, Lolita Miller, allowed Green inside her home - and after he had left she discovered that perfume and a month's supply of her prescription drugs had vanished.

He also screamed abuse when a neighbour complained about music - shouting: "You need to watch it you dirty dyke. I will smash your face in you fat tramp."

Mr Bilsland said virtually all of the offences had been committed while on bail.

Green was sent to prison for four common assaults, possession of a sword, theft, assault causing bodily harm and failing to surrender to bail.

Simon Taylor, defending, said: "He finds life difficult. He had the sword after he was falsely accused of a crime. He was not a popular man in his area.

"The assault where he was sentenced on January 10 was on his wife on their wedding day.

"His wife, perhaps quite understandably, decided to make as much out of the incident and sold her story.

"There was then widespread publicity in the local area. He was Public Enemy Number One in his community."

Judge Adele Williams told him: "You pose a high risk of harm to women.

"You have no regard to court orders. It is now my duty to protect the public."
