JONATHAN Kennard secured his first British F3 National podium finish at Knockhill on Sunday.
The 19-year-old from Tunbridge Wells had finished fourth on three previous occasions, but the coveted podium had eluded him.
The first race in Scotland resulted in sixth place after after an intelligent drive. He said: "It was tough. I got boxed in at the start and then was held up badly by a back marker from the championship class."
But Kennard made a superb start in the second race to set up a battle with Salvador Duran. Both drivers hit oil at the hairpin and slid, but Kennard managed to regain control of his car and claimed third behind Barton Mower.
"I'm very pleased with third, I was on the pace all weekend," said Kennard. "I was only one tenth of a second off the quickest national class car and had I qualified higher could well have been second.
"I really feel as though we're getting there with the car and more importantly me."
