The strength of local ingredients wins again for a Kent Brewery.

Westerham Brewery is celebrating another award – this time for its Little Scotney Best Bitter.

The deep mahogany beer is a winner at the National Trust Fine Farm Produce Awards which recognise products from the Trust’s farms, orchards and gardens.

The Little Scotney is made using hops from the nearby Scotney Castle and the brewery itself is also on the National Trust owned Grange Farm.

To win the accolade the bitter had to stick to various environmental standards and undergo a blind tasting from industry experts including Henrietta Green, the founder of Food Lovers’ Britain.

She said: “As someone who has pioneered the cause of the small British producer, it is so encouraging to see such fantastic regional British food delivering on quality, distinctiveness, provenance and taste.”

All the products were compared against a quality supermarket standard and deliberately chosen to be better than average.

It is yet another award for Westerham Brewery which regularly receives accolades for its products.

Founder Robert Wicks said: “It’s very nice to have the beer recognised by a blind tasting panel where they taste it against other comparable products.”
