Thieves used a stolen digger in a failed attempt to scoop out two cash machines from the Tesco store in Courteney Road, Gillingham.
The raid took place in the early hours of Monday morning. It's understood that a lot of damage has been caused, but that the raiders failed to get away with cash.
The JCB-style digger is shown still wedged into the wall.
Police were called to the store at 4.13am.
One of two cash machines is still on view, with the other buried underneath a pile of rubble outside the store.
The area has been cordoned by crime scene investigators, who are scouring the area for clues. No arrests have been made.
A Tesco spokesman, said: "We can confirm that there was an incident at our store.
"This has been reported to the police and we are assisting them with their in enquiries in any way we can."
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Det Insp Mike Morgan said: "I would be keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information that may be useful to police.
"If you think you can help us with this investigation please contact detectives at Medway police station.’
The building housing the ATM machines has collapsed, police say the main store is unaffected ans is open as normal.
