A 20-year-old rapist with “little respect” for women has been handed an eight-year prison sentence – despite admitting his guilt in a letter to the judge.
Warped Michael Hitchin had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs before attacking his vulnerable victim – driven on by an “aggressive sense of entitlement”.
The 22-year-old girl had fallen asleep after having sex with a lover... but woke up hours later being raped by a stranger.
Hitchin, of Green Fields Lane, Great Chart, was jailed for six years – and the judge extended the prison licence by another two years.
He had denied the attack – and only confessed his guilt in a letter handed to Judge Michael O’Sullivan before sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court.
The judge told him: “You claimed at the trial that that the sexual intercourse you had with her was consensual.
"You have shown no remorse and your first acknowledgement of guilt was in the letter handed to me.
“You regarded your victim as vulnerable because of her intoxicated state and you wanted to fulfil your desire for sexual gratification.
“You acted with a sense of aggressive entitlement towards your victim. You show just how little you respect women.”
The court heard how she had been left sleeping after having sex with a lover, who went home because he felt ill.
The judge told Hitchin: “She woke up to find you on top of her. She was on her back. She described you as pumping and kissing her... having sex with her, forcing her to have sex.”
During the trial the girl told the jury: “He was like kissing me, and like having sex with me and I was saying: ‘Get off of me’ I was half-asleep.

“He had all his clothes off. He was having sex with me without me being aware of it. He was forcing me to have sex.”
The prosecutor said that at first the girl thought the man kissing and cuddling her was her lover – so she responded.
But then when she realised it was someone else – she was horrified and screamed for him to stop.
The court heard how the victim had been out with friends at an Ashford pub in July last year before going to The Liquid Nightclub in the town, where they met up with people including Hitchin, who she didn’t know.
Later they went to Hitchin’s home for drinks where the victim and her lover had sex in Hitchin’s bed.
“The two had consensual sexual intercourse and it was after that she fell very deeply asleep and wasn’t aware that her lover later left while she was asleep.
"She was clearly very drunk at that time too."
Hitchin denied the offence but the jury found him guilty and it was then revealed that in February 2011 he received a caution for exposing himself to a woman in a High Street drugs store.
The judge told him: “I have no doubt that you pose a significant risk to women.”
