Rehab centre's capacity doubles

DOUBLE the number of recovering drug addicts will now be able to use a rehab centre in Bromley town centre – despite opposition from locals.

An NHS therapy clinic in St Paul’s House, near the top end of the High Street in Edison Road, was given permission to treat 30 people a day at a meeting last night(thurs).

A council planning committee also agreed to vary conditions which means it can stay open for at least another three years and until 8pm one evening a week.

South London and Maudsley NHS Trust was granted permission in 2004 to transform offices into the clinic.

Neighbours had opposed the new plans, claiming they would lead to an increase in "unsavoury" characters and anti-social behaviour.

A crime survey revealed there have been no reported incidents within a 200m radius of the site in the last 12 months.
