A SINGER from Thanet who lost a family member in the World Trade Center bombing is to perform at the memorial concert at the Winter Gardens at Margate next Tuesday. Don Pottle, of Westgate, will sing Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, in memory of his 30-year-old relative.

Mr Pottle said: “Nearly three years ago I was invited by a young member of my extended family to attend his wedding in Surrey, to sing two pieces for him and his lovely Italian bride and her family. I sang the Ave Maria and, as they had both been so recently touched by love, Love Changes Everything, by Julian Lloyd Weber.

“It now seems as though everything has changed, because he will never be coming back after the dreadful events of September 11.”

Mr Pottle, a tenor, has spent much of his life in Canada, where he was a professional singer. He sang for the Toronto Symphony Choir and other Canadian choral societies.

Since returning to Thanet he has been active in the area, singing in the Festival Choir and in the Margate, Ramsgate and Herne Bay Operatic societies.
