A PUBLIC inquiry into the development of a college had to be adjourned while more seating was drafted into a hall full to bursting of angry residents.

It was standing room only as about 200 furious protestors turned out to oppose plans to build a 229-home housing estate on the land currently occupied by Ravensbourne College in Chislehurst, near Bromley.

Bromley Council turned down an application last October, but developer Taylor Woodrow lodged an appeal.

Now, the Government inquiry that has been ordered could overrule the council's decision.

It is expected to last seven days. Inspector Jean Jones will make her decision within 10 working days.
