A COUPLE called on their neighbour for more than just a cup of sugar when their baby arrived earlier than expected.

Neighbourly spirit was alive and well in Beecholme Drive, Kennington, near Ashford, when retired nurse Alma Jacobs came to the rescue of her pregnant neighbour Claire Moore and partner Steve Handley.

Within a matter of moments she had delivered a healthy baby boy who they named Leo.

"I happened to be in the right place at the right time," said Mrs Jacobs, who was a nurse for 31 years and still helps out two days a week at the William Harvey Hospital.
