Details of expenses claims made by Kent MPs reveal that three made no claims at all in the first to be published under new rules.

The new arrangements were introduced in the wake of the scandal surrounding the previous system.

The claims cover a three month period from May to August and show that in total some £3.1m was paid to 576 MPs for 20,000 separate claims.

No claims were recorded for the Rochester and Strood MP Mark Reckless; Tonbridge and Malling MP Sir John Stanley and Gravesham MP Adam Holloway.

However, the remaining MPs all made claims of varying amounts for the period, ranging from just £463 claimed by Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark to £12,772 by Canterbury MP Julian Brazier.

Of the newly-elected MPs in the county, Maidstone and Weald MP Helen Grant claimed £11,708. Her claims included £4,001 for a second home rental along with £2,515 for computer equipment. Her claim also included £36.40 for a taxi home after a late sitting.

Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch claimed £6,319 of which £3,877 was for staffing costs. She made no claim for accommodation as her constituency is within an hour of Westminster, as did several others.

Gareth Johnson, Dartford MP, claimed £9,109 over the period including £306 in travel allowances and £80 for a taxi after a late night sitting.

Gillingham MP Reh Chishti claimed £4,758 over the period of which £3,877 was for staffing costs.

Folkestone and Hythe MP Damian Collins claimed £4,440.90 of which the bulk was accounted for in three monthly rent payments of £1,450 each.
